CATS Team Naming & Roster Guidelines

Team Naming Rules

  • Teams must select a name from the approved CATS Team Name Pool or submit a custom team name for review.

  • Custom names must align with Christian values, sportsmanship, and professionalism and must be submitted at least two weeks before the season starts for approval.

  • Minor modifications to names from the approved pool (e.g., “Kingdom Warriors” vs. “Holy Warriors”) may be allowed upon review.

  • Examples of approved names: “Faithful Defenders,” “Victory Seekers,” “Anointed Strikers.”

  • Examples of disallowed names: Anything that includes offensive, secular, or unbiblical language or contradicts the mission of the CATS program.

  • The CATS Administration reserves the right to approve, reject, or suggest modifications to any submitted team name.

Team Roster Requirements

  • To compete officially, teams must meet the minimum player requirement per sport on game day:Soccer – 7 players
    Basketball – 5 players
    Football – 7 players
    Softball (Men’s, Women’s, Coed) – 9 players
    Dodgeball – 6 players
Track & Field – 3 athletes per event
    Volleyball – 6 players
    Hockey – 6 players
Swimming & Cheerleading – Team size varies by event

Provisional Team Status
  • A team that has at least 80% of the required players may still compete in the regular season as a "Provisional Team."

  • Provisional Teams have three weeks to fill their remaining roster spots or risk being moved to exhibition-only status.

  • Teams that do not meet the minimum after this timeframe can continue to participate but will not be eligible for official standings, playoffs, or awards.

Regular Season vs. Championships

  • During the regular season, teams that do not meet the minimum roster requirement on game day can still participate for fun but will not be eligible for official standings, playoffs, or awards.

  • Championship tournaments require full rosters confirmed before playoffs begin. Any team that fails to meet roster requirements will forfeit their spot to the next eligible team.

Faith & Community Commitment

  • Every team must uphold the mission of CATS—competing with excellence, faith, and integrity while fostering Christian sportsmanship.

  • Teams are encouraged to open games with prayer, team devotions, or faith-based encouragements before or after games.

  • A "Team Covenant" will be signed by all teams, committing to playing with honor, respect, and Christ-centered values.
